I attended the Institute of Design at IIT, where I studied with Aaron Siskind, and received a master’s degree in photography in 1970. I also had the good fortune to study with Art Sinsabaugh and Ken Josephson as an undergraduate. I have been teaching photography since 1980, currently at Elmhurst College. Teaching and interacting with photography students has allowed me to realize the enormous range of creative possibility that exists in Photography.
For my own work I have drawn upon my surroundings and life experiences. I feel strongly that the creative potential of the darkroom has not yet been fully realized. This is especially sad when darkroom are disappearing daily. It is true that digital photography is very seductive and there is also offers the possibility for exploring new avenues for visual communication.
