Ron Seymour
I got my first “real” camera when I was 16. It was a Rollicord twin lens reflex camera. I’ve been making photographs ever since. Instead of talking about myself I’ve quoted a couple of reviews I’ve received from my shows.
Lisa Lenoir from the Chicago Sun Times: “Photographer Ron Seymour cherishes the moments when he can get in his Jeep, leave Chicago behind and head west. Cameras in tow, he will meander the back roads of the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, seeking inspiration from the simplest landscapes with its animals and people. This approach enables him to take the captivating photos that make up his retrospective. In an exhibit that spans his 40 year career Seymour showcases about 100 photos, ranging from nudes to landscapes to social documentaries. Many of his compelling works are interpreted in black and white.”
Paul Barile from Chicago Arts & Entertaiment: “I am not going to waste too much space on words. Not when the work of Ron Seymour can more gracefully occupy this page. Seymour is not only a phenomenal artist with the camera, he is a master printer. Moving through the gallery, his work and his understanding of form doesn’t scream off the wall but it calmly waits to be noticed, at which time it seduces you. His work with horses touches your visceral core, his work with nudes demonstates his ability to interpret human form. With a subject as brilliant as Nelson Algren he has captured the spirit of Chicago and the road map of the city in the lines of the late literary genius’s face.”
